Alicia ,Zainab and Honor's Water Filter.

I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury

In this project I was working with Honor and Zainab and we decided to create a water filter.

Here is a link to our plan: Our plan

In this project we decided that our success criteria were:

A good TV ad, water filter or Children’s Story needs...
Why is this important?

Needs to be able to produce drinkable water.
Because if the water is not clean bacteria spreads and people get sick.
Need to be strong.
So it doesn’t break and It can carry all the weight in it.
Needs to be long lasting.
So you don’t have to make new water filters all of the time.
Needs to have the right materials.
Because without the right materials the water filter wouldn’t work.
It needs to be able to work in different areas.
Because all water filters are built for different countries and areas

Overall our project kind of met the criteria, because our water filters is strong, has the right materials, is kind of long lasting, it can work in different areas and can produce drinkable water on the second/ third time round.

Music

Walt: Describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place.

Over the past 9 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place.

I can describe these characteristics in a piece of music, here is a definition of the five characteristics:
  1. Harmony: In Harmony there is two types minor and major ( Minor is a sad song and major is a happy song)
  2. Melody: Melody is the tune, voice or line that gets stuck in your head it is usually a combination of pitch and rhythm.
  3. Form: Form is pretty much just the layout of the song E.G The chorus, bridge, verse, etc.
  4. Timbre: Timbre is the bit in the song that makes it unique.
  5. Rhythm: Rhythm is repeated sounds that change speed.
What did you find most interesting during this topic. I found learning about the different music characteristics most interesting because I didn't know what any of them meant before doing music. Which characteristic do you find yourself picking up on when listening to your own music now? When I listen to my own music I often hear rhythm, because I often here songs change speed and repeated sounds. Here is an example of my learning (Link)

Koru Games

The Koru games activity I did was mixed touch rugby.
My two highlights from Koru games were:

  1. Improving my touch and getting along/ connecting with my team more because we could play better as a team if we worked together and connected together.
  2. Completing against other team's, because it was really fun and good to verse other teams.
My advise to anyone else going to Koru games:
My advise is to get along with your team mates and chose a sport you really like.

I am proud of drawing our game with Lincoln and almost winning our match against Darfield

House Captain- Distinction evidence 25

On Monday we did not have a leaders meeting.

Bake sale: Wednesday
On Wednesday the year eights had our last bake sale of the year to raise money for our trip to Wellington. At about 20 minutes to 11, we started to set up. I made sure to ask either Sam L's mum, Emma's mum or Levis mum which table I should put the food on either middle school, juniors and seniors. I helped out at the middle school table with Samara, Sam L, Honor, Lauren, Dylan and I. Since there is 18 student leaders there is six at each table. I went to room 9 and some other classes to tell them they could go and get food from the bake sale. When the bake sale started I made sure to explain the prices, speak clearly/loudly, give the correct amount of change, be friendly and polite, and make sure people were paying the correct money. Our table also made sure to lower the prices at the correct time and always make sure there was something on our table that was 1 dollar. We ended up selling everything which was really good and we made just under 800 dollars?
When everything was sold I made sure to help pack up and respect people’s containers.
Overall I think it was a really successful bake sale and I stepped up as a leader.

Student leader’s photos: Tuesday.
On Tuesday we had a student leader’s photo I made sure to just listen to the photographs and stand in the correct places. I think I showed all my care values at this event.

Care value:
The care value I showed this week was community because I was a positive community member while helping out at the bake sale and getting our photos token also think I showed excellence because I tried my best at the bake sale to make sure everything was done fairly.

How I showed leadership:
I showed leadership by being a good leader at the bake sale, I was a good leader by stepping up as a leader and being sensible.

How I have continued to be a good role model this week:

I have continued to be a good role model by role modelling positive behaviour at the bake sale and to the juniors when in the junior’s area.

Librarian- Distinction evidence 24

On Monday all the librarian received an email, about the librarian school photos and when/where they were on. I noticed that Zainab wasn't on the mailing list and the mail hadn't been sent to her, even though she was a librarian, I showed active thinking by forwarding the message to her.

Here is the email:
Here is the email:

On Tuesday I made sure to turn up on time to the librarian photos. I also made sure to remind people to go, who hadn't checked their email. When we were getting our photos took I made to listen, get in the correct order and be respectful to the photographs. I personally think I was respectful while having the photo took and showing all my care values.

On Thursday Zainab and I had reading to the juniors, since it was a mix of crazy weather rain, hail, sleet etc, there was no reading to the juniors.  On Wednesday and Thursday, I helped out in the morning at the library, because heaps of people come in and there is always books too put away. On Wednesday and Thursday I helped by putting books and cleaning the book shelves.

Care value:
The care value I showed was active thinking because I forwarded the email to Zainab when I knew she wouldn't get it. I also showed all my care values at the photos.

How I showed leadership:
I showed leadership by helping out in the morning when I couldn't do reading to the juniors, due to the crazy weather!!

How I have continued to be a good role model this week:

I have continued to be a good role model this week because I role modelled positive behaviour when having my photos taken.

Libraian- Distinction evidence 23

On Monday I had library mentor, Mrs Ward told me that Tracy and Warsiaha had been mentored enough and I didn't have to do it any more so I spent the rest of the lunch time getting involved in other activities.

On Thursday I had reading to the juniors with Zainab and Honor helped. I am not sure about Makayla, as she hasn't organised with Mrs Ward about when she is going to swap with me due to te Haupa but I just did my duty anyway. When the bell rang for lunch time I headed straight to the library to collect the books. I just got the usual Spot The Dog, Barbie etc. Next we headed down to the junior area when we arrived a whole bunch of kids came running up to us insterted in the Barbie books we have. I ended up reading to one girl in room 14 who seemed to really like Barbie. At about 20 or so pass we headed back to the library to allow time to put the books away properly. Afterward we got involved by playing on the playground.

On Friday I helped Honor with reading to the juniors. First we headed to the library to collect the beanbags and books. We basically just got all the Barbie books, Spot The Dog, Sofia The First, etc, which always go down well. I read to Morgan a girl in room 14, who seemed to really like the books and also read to another girl in room 14 (Which is the new entrants class) At around about 20 past we headed back to the library to allow time to return the beanbags because it takes longer to bring them back since they are quite heavy!! Next time I think we should get a better range of books and get something suited for boys because all the books are kind of for girls. Overall I do think it was still a really good session.

Care value:
The care value I showed was Community because I was a good community member by doing my leadership duty.

How I showed leadership:
I showed leadership by being a good leader while in the junior’s area.

How I have continued to be a good role model:

I have continued to be a good role model by role modelling positive behaviour to the younger kids.

  • Next rotate the now read hand that you just rotated 90 degrees and rotate it 90 degrees so it is now blue again.
  • Then reflect the blue hand.
  • Now you can rotate the red hand 90 degrees so it is now blue.
  • After that you can reflect it again.
  • Then to bring it back to the beginning you can rotate it 90 degrees and it is now blue.

Next step: My Next step is to set a new maths goal.

House Captain- Distinction 22

On Monday we didn't have a student leaders meeting so there wasn't as much leadership this week as other week's.

On Monday we did have a whole school assembly throyght. The student leaders sat up the front, right in front of the new entracts , so it is a great chance to role model the assmebly expections to them since they have a short attiton span and get dircted at assmeblys. It was great that the student leaders could role model postive behaviour to them.

The assmebly expections:

Commuity:

  • Enter and exit respectfully ( This means walking in and out of the hall quesitly)
  • Clap and laugh when aporitave. ( This means not trying to be silly and get the last clap and knowing when to stop laughing)
Active Thinking:

  • Foucs on the speaker or presnastion. (This means looking at the person that is talking througout the assmebly)
Respect:

  • Sit quietly ( This pretty much means sit queitly without talking)
  • Listen repctfully (This means listening in a respectful manner)
Excellence

  • Follow the assmebly expections ( This means pretty much following the care values )
I think I role modelled all of these in the assmebly and the little kids had a postive role model to look up too. I eneded up getting a pozi for showing them

Care value:
The care value I showed was all of them because I showed all the care values in the assmebly. The learner quitely I showed was collbraote because I collbraoted with the other student leaders at assmebly.

How I showed leadership:
I showed leadership by being a good leader when I was sitting up the right so everyonbe could see a postitve role model.

How I have continued to be a good role model:
I have continued to be a good role model by role modelling postive behaviour at the assmebly for the new entracts to follow and any ther students that weren't doing the right thing at assmebly/
