Te Reo, Term 4 2016.

Te Reo- Term 4 2016

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…….

  • The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
  • The Marae is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
  • The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
  • There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
  • Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi.

We have focused on some key concepts when doing this learning.
These are listed and explained in the table below.

Definition -
give the meaning of these concepts in your own words.
Tikanga  basically means the correct way of doing things on a marae.
Powhiri is a very important concept, it is the welcoming ceremony that is held on the marae.
Tangata whenua
Tangata Whenua is the local people, that are connected to the marae.
Manuhiri basically means the visitors to the marae.
Tūrangawaewae kind of gives you a home base and feel more connected to the marae.
Whanaungatanga is your relationship towards the marae, it represents your belonging on the marae.
Manaakitanga is your care for people's well being and health, mainly respect for elders.
Aroha means love, it can also mean respect, hospitality etc

See this video for an explanation of the roles and responsibilities of people on a marae.

Something I would like to learn about the marae is what is feels like to be on a marae .

Interpret scales, timetables and charts.

Walt: Interpret scales, timetables and charts.
Here is a link to the modelling book.
Overall I found this maths group quite easy, the part that I found challenging was roundabout rugby because you had to create a round robin rubgy tournament with no teams playing consecutively.
Next step:
My next step is to set a new maths goal.

Treaty of Waitangi

 Treaty of Waitangi learning:

Here is a link to my compare and Contrast map.
Here is a link to my learning about the three articles

What I found interesting:
I found learning about what happens in Australia and how they are treated interesting because it was very different and also quite sad.

I would like to find out more about the three articles and what they mean.
