House Captain- Excellence evidence 25.

This week we didn't have a leadership meeting on Monday.
Care Ticks:
On Tuesday and Thursday the student leaders did care ticks. I made sure not to go too fast or I might accidentally click the wrong name/care tick. I also did my care ticks before school so when it was relax and read time I would have more time to do other people care ticks. Lastly I made sure to be police and respectful to the people's ticks I was filling in, I also made sure to sit in a visible spot so people could see me and there was room for them. Overall I think I did a good job at doing care ticks this week and will make sure to do the same every week not just some weeks!

This week I  was a role model by doing all my other leadership duties this week, for an example I did librarian on Thursday with Honor and Zainab, this was a very challenging duty, as most of the juniors were at dance group!

The learner quality I showed and how I showed leadership:
The learner quality  I showed was Communicate, because I communicated respectfully with my classmates, when I was recording their care ticks. I showed leadership by showing the care values and being a positive role model by looking after the computer I was using. I did this by holding it with two hands, overall I think I was a good leader this week.

Librarian this week - Excellence evidence 24

On Monday there was no library mentor due to Queens birthday.

On Thursday Honor, Zainab and I had reading to the juniors. We headed straight to the library when the lunch bell rang. First we collected a range of books including Barbie, Sofia The First, Spot The Dog and a few others. Next we grabbed two bean bags and headed to the juniors area. Now came the hard part, finding kids to read too. I found one girl, who really liked the books and even wanted me to read the sentence, then she would read it which was good that she was practicing her reading. At about 20 past 1 we headed back to the library to allow time to return the beanbags and books. We made sure to return the books to the corrcet place, instead of putting them on the trolley for filing. I made sure to respect the beanbags while we were taking them back to the library.

Next time I think we should even the kids we read to out, because some of us were reading to about five kids and others one, so it would be easier to manage them and they would probably be listening better.

The learner quality I showed was resillience because It was really hard to find kids to read to and it was hard to get them to pay attention and listen. I showed leadership by motivating kids to try and read the book themselves and give them a chance.

House captain Excellence evidence- 23

On Monday since it was Queens birthday we didn't have a leadership meeting.

On Tuesday afternoon Jack and my value lesson was shared to classes around the school.

Care Ticks:
On Wednesday we did care ticks. There was a lot to be recorded on Wednesday so I worked quickly and didn't waste time. I also did my own care ticks before school so I would get more time during relax and read to do other people's care ticks since there was a lot! I made sure to not go too fast, so I wouldn't click the wrong thing and give someone an extra tick, which wouldn't be fair. I also made sure not to cheat and give myslef more care ticks than anyone esle. Personally I think I did a good job of doing the ticks this week and was fair.

The learner quality I showed and how I showed leadership:
The learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with others to complete the care ticks in a fair way. I also questioned because I asked questions to make sure I was adding the right tick in. I showed leadership by communicating respectfully and showing the care values, Community, Active Thinking, Respect and Excellence.

Librarian- Excellence evidence 22

On Monday I had library mentor. Considering there wasn't much to do Tracy and I just filed the books and then Mrs Ward told us we could leave since there was only about five people in the library which wasn't so good.

On Thursday Honor, Zainab and I had reading to the juniors we headed to the library after the bell had rang and waited outside until we had finished eating because you are not allowed to eat in the library.

We then collected a range of books some of them included popular books like a Frozen book and a Barbie book. We also got Spot The Dog book, Strawberry shortcake and more. We made sure to get a mix of books, because not all kids like Barbie and sometimes we only bring Barbie books!

We then grabbed some bean bags to take with us, because it helps get kids to read too.

After we headed to the juniors area and searched for kids to read to. We found a lot and were reading to about 10 kids, which was really good. We read until 20 past to allow time to return the books and bean bags.

Overall I think reading to the juniors was really successful and I hope next week's is just as good.  I also think that they really enjoyed it.

The learner quality I showed was resilience because it was quite hard finding kids to start with and it was hard to tell whether they were listening!! I showed leadership by motivating kids to read and being friendly and kind to the kids we were reading too.

House Captain- Excellence evidence 21

Today we had a leadership catch up during class time to look at the results from the survey we did recently. We then had to come up with our next step. For the house captains we decided to organize four games one for each term. The four we choose were invisible touch, capture the flag, multiball and predator. Jack and I are doing predator, we created an action plan about the steps we need to do to complete this game they were:

  • Organizing the equipment.
  • Deciding on the rules.
  • Promoting the game.

At morning tea on Monday we had a leadership meeting. We watched a Grip Leadership video about being organized the three tips we got from the video were:

1) Write it Down.

2)  Put everything in its place.

3) Preparation is key.

I personally think I am doing all three of these things and I apply them in my leadership duty each day.

Care ticks:
On Tuesday the student leaders did a big lot of care ticks. Once we were told to sit up, I choose a visible/sensible place to sit, so people could see me and clearly talk to me. Another thing I did was make sure to click the right things, I did this by not going too fast! I made sure to be friendly and polite to all the people that needed care ticks recorded. We also did care ticks on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Cloakrooms slideshow:
At the leadership meeting Miss O'Connor told us that we would be adding pictures to one of the values lesson slideshows. Jack and I got cloakrooms. We were told that this would need to be completed by next Friday. (So we had two weeks to do it) We took the pictures on Thursday to make sure to get it done by the due date. On Friday we added it to the slideshow. I think that to get this complete I used the tips from the GRIP leadership video.

Learner quality and how I showed leadership:
The learner quiatly I showed was Collaborate because I collaborated with all the student leaders. I showed leadership by doing my duty and not cheating, which was being a leader. I also showed leadership by completing the slideshow before the due date and doing it at a sensible time near the end of the week because we would have more SML done.

House Captain - Excellence evidence 20

Today was the whole school assembly, The student leaders sat up the front. I listened to the value focus and made sure to follow it. The focus was: Focus on the speaker or presentation. I showed that throughtout the assembly and earned a care tick, which was role modeling to other students, especially to the juniors. I also made sure to not talk, because that would definitely not be role modelling. Lastly when the year seven and eights were released I made sure to leave respectfully and not talk.

Care Ticks:
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday the house captains did the care ticks. We had to work hard because there was a lot to do since a lot had be handed out. I made sure to:

  • Not cheat.
  • Fill the form out correctly.
  • Listen and not assume.
  • Do other people's care ticks before me.
  • Lastly be friendly and kind.
The learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with the people in Kowhai to get there care ticks done and do them right. I showed leadership by filling the form in and being a leader and role model this week. Another way I showed leadership was when I was sitting up the front at the assembly, even thought it was boring I still showed my care values.

Librarian- Excellence evidence 19

Today was library mentor with Tracy. I headed to the library straight after the bell signaled for lunch to start and finished my lunch outside the library.

Soon I started filing the books and making sure to put them in the right place and if I saw some books in the wrong place, I put them in the correct place! I made sure to be polite on the library desk and speak loudly so people could hear me.

On Thursday I did reading to the juniors with Zainab and Honor. First we headed straight to the library to collect the beanbags and books.

Next we headed to the juniors area and found kids to read too. We were reading to at least ten kids.

I read a range of Barbie books to a girl from room 18. I could tell she really liked Barbie. Some of the books we read were "Spot The Dog" and Barbie books like "Too Many Puppies". These choices were hugely successful.

After about 25 minutes of reading we collected all the books and beanbags  we bought and headed straight back to the library. When we were back in the library, we returned the books to their correct places and put the beanbags away.

Later on after reading we got involved by playing some netball games.

The learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with Honor, Tracy, Zainab and Mrs Ward to make sure this weeks librarian duty was successful! I showed leadership by motivating kids to read and being a role model while I was in the junior area. I did this by not jumping on the beanbags and respecting the books.

Libraian this week- Excellence evidence 18

On Monday I was library Mentor. I had to do it by myself because Alex changed to Friday due to Te Hapua and Tracy had basketball. I basically spent the whole lunchtime filing books because there was a lot of them and there was no one there to help!!! When I was filing the books the whole lunch time I made sure to put them in the right place and ask the librarians (Mrs Ward and the other librarian) where they went if I wasn't sure. I also was a good sport about doing it instead of leaving them for Mrs Ward to do. After the library has been closed I cleaned it up making sure there were no books lying around, and because I found some I picked them up.

On Wednesday I told Mrs Ward that I may not be able to do Reading To The Juniors on Thursday because I might still be at the denist, which was leadership because some people don't tell the librarians if they are going to be away and Mrs Ward thinks they have slacked off. I also found another person to help out.

On Thursday when I couldn't do librarian, in the morning I reminded the person I got to fill in to do it.

The learner quality I showed was communicate because I communicated with Mrs Ward to tell her I would be away and I was resilient because I didn't give up when I couldn't find where the books went, instead I was self aware and asked someone. I showed leadership by movitaving myself to keep going and put the books away, I also showed leadership by telling Mrs Ward that I would be away.

House Captain- Excellence evidence 17

Bake sale:
On Wednesday was the first bake sale of the year. At 10:45am the student leaders started setting up the bake sale. We bought the tables out to the three areas. We then divided the food on to the three tables.

Next we broke into 3 groups, since there are 18 student leaders we had six at each table. My table was for year  3, 4, 5, and  6 students. Honor and I went around the room one, two, three, four, five and six classes to tell them their class was allowed to come out for the bake sale or they were allowed seconds. I made sure to be polite and not disturb the classes learning.

The bake sale started and I made sure to tell kids the prices, give the appropriate amount of change, be nice and speak loud! The bake sale was very successful and our table made a lot of money, which was good.

After the kids had stopped coming, I helped return the food to our learning space, closed the containers so the food would be fresh for the sale after school. I didn't help with the bake sale after school because I was taking the flags down, which was showing leadership.

Care ticks:
The house captains did the care ticks on Tuesday and  Wednesday . I made sure not to go too fast because I might accidentally click the wrong name. I also double checked with the people in kowhai to make sure I was putting the right tick in and chose a sensible place to sit,  which was  a visible place so people could see me. Another thing I did was put my ticks in after I had finished instead of keeping people waiting and not cheat.

The learner quality I showed and how I showed leadership:
The learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with the people I was serving at the bake sale and the people who needed care ticks recorded. I also collbraoted with the other student leaders. I showed leadership by showing the care values when I was walking around the school (Doing the flags and at the bake sale) and I communicated respectfully which is one of the school rules when I was telling the classes that they could go to the bake sale.

Library mentor - Excellence evidence. 16

On Monday I was a library mentor. I made sure to finish my lunch outside the library before going in the library. When I got in the library I filed the books since Tracy was still eating. When I was filling the books I made sure to help Tracy and Alex if they needed help and put them in the right place. Also when I was putting them on the shelf if I saw any books in the wrong place I made sure to put them in the right place instead of leaving them. Next some people wanted to return their books and the computer wasn't working. It didn't go very well since Tracy and I couldn't find any paper to write the barcode on. We ended up writing on sticky notes on the computer. We made sure to get the correct barcode and write the person's full name.

There was no reading to the juniors this week because of  the cross country. I told Mrs Ward on Thursday morning that I wouldn't be there which was showing leadership even though I couldn't do it.

The learner quality I showed was collaborate because Tracy and I collaborated to make sure we found something to write the barcode on and collaborated with each other. I showed leadership by respecting the library books and putting them in the correct place as well as telling Mrs Ward I wouldn't be there.

House captain - Excellence evidence 15

Assembly:
On Monday was the assembly I was a role model when I sat up the front with the other student leaders. I was a role model by singing and showing the care values. I also got my Merit badge at the assembly which was role modelling.

Cross country games:
Today was the cross country. At the cross country the house captains each organised a game with their partner. Jack and I organised Capture the Flag for the year 7 and 8 students.

In the morning I made sure that the equipment for our game was ready.

At the cross country Mr Brown met with us to tell us what year level we were taking and make sure we were all ready. When it was almost time to play our game Jack and I set up, because it had a more advanced set up than usual games and the set up took longer. I made sure to get some pozies from Mr Brown before the game started so I could hand them out during the game. The game was pretty successful and I made sure to help pack up because some house captains just left their gear out.

Care ticks:
This week we did the care ticks on Tuesday. I made sure to collaborate with the kowhai people who needed their care ticks recorded and double checked I was recording the right ticks for the right people, I also put them before me by doing their care ticks before mine. The form questions are:

  • Name.
  • Level of care.
  • Care value.
  • What they got the care tick for.

Charity on Thursday:
This week was also Xanthe and Sam L's charity event. They sent us a email to tell us to be at school at 8:15am.  I made sure to turn up on time to help set up and collect the clothes for the city mission. I had to put clothes in bags ready to go to the City Mission and put clothes on the stage. They got a lot of clothes and it seemed to go successfully. I also listened to what I needed to do and put a reminder in the notices.

Learner quality and how I showed leadership:
The learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with Jack and the other house captains to make sure the cross country and the other events this week went well. I showed leadership by motivating kids at the cross country and helping Sam and Xanthe with their Charity event.

Helping out around the school- Excellence evidence 14

Today I helped Honor and Makayla with their reading to the juniors. First we all headed down to the library to collect books and a bean bag. Next we hauled the bean bags down to the juniors area, this took a lot of effort considering they were very heavy. Now time for the hard part, finding little kids to read too!! I found one girl and than a few other girls came alone. Some of the books I read were Kippers Birthday and a collection of Barbie books which the kids seem to love. We then headed back to the library at the correct time.

The learner quality I showed was resilience because it was very hard to find kids but I didn't give up. I also collaborated with Honor and Makayla to make sure reading to the juniors was successful.  I showed leadership by showing all my care valces and helping Honor and Makayla out.
Here is a picture of one of the books I read.

Library mentor and reading to the juniors- Excellence evidence 13

On Monday I was library mentor. While I was collecting books to put away one of the shelves fell down. I told the girl that dropped it that I would help her pack it up. I made sure to put it in the correct order instead of just trashing the books on the shelf. After I had put all the books on it fell down again. I made sure to put it back up in the right order instead of leaving it.

Since Tracy and Alex now know how to run the library I decided without being asked to tidy the shelves because they were really bad. Mrs Ward really appreciated my help because they were very messy!!!  I made sure to respect the books.

On Thursday I turned up to reading to the juniors on time straight after the bell rang. I did it with Honor because Zainab was away. First I collected a section of Barbie books including Barbie Princess Charm School, Barbie Fashion Fairy Tale and Barbie Musketeers. Next Honor and I grabbed a bean bag each and headed down to the juniors area. I found two girls to read to and they stayed for a few books. Next another girl came up to me wanting to read some books. I read a few more books to her, which she really enjoyed. When it was time we returned the books and beanbags back to the library instead of leaving them outside to get destroyed!!!

The learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with Honor to make sure reading to the juniors was successful. I also showed resillience by not getting annoyed when the shelf fell down again.  I showed leadership by earning a posie from a duty teacher and motivating kids to read.

House Captain Evidence - Excellence 12

On Monday we didn't have a leaders meeting, but Mr Ladbrook told the student leaders to have a talk to Mr Brown. Xanthe, Reia, Dylan and I showed up at morning tea to talk to him. He told us later today that he will email a form about what game we will be playing at the cross country next Thursday. I made sure to check my emails every hour.

At assembly:
I was a role model when the leaders sat at the front because I showed the assembly care values so the little kids would follow. I also made sure to participate in the waiata actions and exit and enter the hall without talking to the other leaders.

The Form:
When the google form arrived with a due date of Wednesday Jack and I made sure to get it completed on time. The questions were:

  • House leaders name.
  • What game we are playing?
  • What equipment will you need?
  • What rules/ instructions will you explain?
We are playing trickey tag, we were going to play capture the flag, but we decided it was too complex.

Taking the flags down:
This week I made sure to check with the other house captains to see if I was needed to do the flag. I put the flag up the days when I was needed since it is a roster. I made sure to do it!

Care value form:
The care value form is a form used to keep track of the classes care ticks. All the house captains with their partner fill the form in for people in their house who need care ticks filled in. We do it at relax and read and relax and write which is after lunch. Since I have access to the form I made sure to not cheat.

Leadership survey:
As part of our statistics unit each group peer mediators, pals and the student leaders are creating a survey for the rest of the school on how we are going. The student leaders questions are:

  • What year level are you in?
  • What year are you in?
  • Boy or girl?
  • House?
Next their are 2 questions for each leadership positions. Cultural ambassadors, sports co-ordinator, house points, head students and house captains.

The house captains questions are:

  • What would you like to see happen in your house?
  • What have you liked about your house this year?
The learner quality I showed and how I showed leadership?
The learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with Jack and the other house captains to come up with survey questions, organize the care ticks and the flag, and choose our cross country game. I showed leadership by not slaking off with duties and showing the care values.

House captain- Excellence evidence 11

Today we had a brief leaders meeting with Mr Brown and Mr Ladbrook to inform us we would be helping at the sports day on Friday.

The games on Friday:
Today was the sports day . We didn't end up running a game, but as a house captain/student leader I stepped up and really tried hard to make the games enjoyment for everyone. By helping our junior class and be a role model to them.

Putting the flags up:
Recently the house captains have started putting up and taking down some care values flags. Each afternoon Sam W , Monique and I take down the flags. In the morning Jack, Jonathan, Samara and Sam L put them up. We take them down at 2:45 each day and I always make sure I remember. The flags are taken down from stands on the ground so I make sure to not pull the stand out of the ground by being careful. I also showed leadership by walking around the school respectfully with the flag because it is easy to hit people.

The learner quality I showed and how I showed leadership:
The learner quality I showed this week was collaborate because I collaborated with Sam W and Monique to make sure we were doing the flags on time. I showed leadership by showing by care values when walking around the school and showing integrity by making sure all the house captains get a fair go when taking/putting the flags up.

Getting involved at koru games prastice- Excellence evidence 10

Today we had a koru games prastice. The sport I am playing is netball. We started with a stepping warm up where we would be running along the court and then Samara's mum would blow the whiste and we would have to stop without stepping. Next we worked on our pivoting playing a similar game. After we got into partners.  I went withTracy and prasticed our passing. The first pass we did was chest passing which were quite easy. The second pass we did was high pass's which were a bit harder. The third pass we did was shoulder passes which were a bit more complex. We had to make sure we were putting our leg forward and throwing at the same time. After we played netball for a short period of time.

The learner quality I showed was resillience because I tried really hard at netball when things got tough like when we were doing the shoulder passes. I showed leadership by being goal fousced by being focused to do really well in netball and have fun as well as working with my team.

Library mentor and reading to the juniors -Excellence evidence 9

Today considering Tracy had a basketball trail, I helped Alex with library. Since their was not much to do I just helped Alex file the books and help people in the library find books.

On Thursday I read to the juniors . First I headed to the library to collect a beanbag  and then took it down to the junior area . Next I  found some girls who were interested in Barbie and asked them if they would like to read some books!  I found one girl then a whole lot of other kids came along which was really good. A few girls just looked at the pictures, but still enjoyed the experience a lot ! I brought five Barbie books to the juniors and aimed to get different ones because I mainly read to the same kids so I want them to have a difference collection of books for me to read to them.
The books I read were:

  • A Teacher (Barbie)
  • A Vet (Barbie)
  • Princess charm school (Barbie)
  • Barbie: The Princess & the Pop star.
  • Barbie and the fashion fairytale

The learner quality I showed was connecting because I connected with the little kids and asked them questions, for an example when I was reading the vet book I connected with them and asked if they had any pets. I showed leadership by being fair and letting other kids chose the book we were going to read next.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        References:AmazonBarbie-movies.wikia

Excellence evidence- Reading to the juniors 8

Today I read to the juniors at lunchtime today. First I headed to the library and collected some books and grabbed a bean bag.I then headed to the juniors area and set up. I didn't even have to find/ask kids because some came up very interested in the Barbie books. I read to one girl who liked Barbie a lot and really enjoyed the books. Next I read to two other big Barbie fans who also really enjoyed the books. Some people only liked the pictures and Barbie's dresses but that was all good.
Some of the books I read were:

  • A Teacher (Barbie)
  • A Vet (Barbie)
  • Charm school (Barbie)

I did bring Spot Goes To A Party, but it wasn't very popular.
Overall I showed leadership by motivating kids to read and showing integrity by being fair and letting a range of kids pick what we would be reading next. The learner quality I showed was resilience because it was a difficult job getting kids to listen to the books and it was difficult attempting to take the bean bag and books back to the library!! Next time I will bring a better range of books to the juniors because not everyone like Barbie. Also next time I will do it with Zainab as she has left choir.

Technology on the bus- Excellence evidence 7

Today we went to technology. On the way there I sat with Zainab and Alex M and on the way back I say with Zainab and Hayley. I showed the care values on the bus which are:

Community:

  • Display all CARE values to the public.
  • Be aware of others when entering and exiting the bus.

  • Active thinking:

    • Fill seats sensibly.
    • Talk quietly to the person next to you so the driver can concentrate.
    Respect:
    • Use manners when entering and exiting buses.
    • Respect the bus by not littering.
    Excellence:
    • Represent Oaklands School positively.
I showed these values at Technology and the care values under classroom at technology. I am in sewing, first we went over safely, groundwork, passports, then did a task about material and how to use the machine. Then the years 8 got set a task which was to stitch a straight line, a square and zig zag. I passed and completed it on time. I used my time wisely by completing this and the material tasks we had to do. I also showed another classroom value of cleaning up after yourself because I cleaned my sewing machine up and cleaned the classroom up. The last values I think I showed was be aware of others, since we were  in a small space and there were dangerouse objects in the room.

I showed leadership by helping others and motivating them to get their work done on time when finished my work early.

The Learner quality I showed was resilience because sewing is not my best subject, but I didn't give up when it was hard or challenging.

    House Captain- Excellence evidence 6

Today we had a leaders meeting, first we catch up about what has been going on and what events were coming up. Then Mr Ladbrook told the house captains that we may be helping at the sports day on Monday.  Next Mr Ladbrook made sure everyone was blogging and achieving  their badges. Later was the whole school assembly. I was a role model by showing the care values at assembly, which are:

    Community:
    • Enter and exit respectfully.
    • Clap/laugh politely when appropriate
    Active Thinking:
    • Focus on the speaker or presentation.
    Respect:
    • Listen respectfully.
    • Sit quietly.
    Excellence:
    • Follow the assembly expectations.
    How I did this:
I did this by not talking to the other student leaders because that wouldn't be role modelling, this was hard because I was sitting by my friend but I didn't talk once. I also role modeled when I received a Principal award because I went up to the stage respectfully instead of running.
Overall the learner quality I showed was collaborate because I collaborated with the other leaders at the leaders meeting. I showed leadership by showing the care values and getting an award.

On Thursday we has a leadership meeting. We talked about balancing responsibility. We watched a video about it.  Then the house captains got pulled out to talk about putting up the flags each morning I think I am talking them down after school. Later on we made a graph.
